PCP is a dissociative drug that causes distortions similar to a psychotic state. You may hear sounds, see colors that aren’t there, see yourself differently, or see your environment differently. PCP was first created by scientists as an anesthetic for surgeries. Due to its severe neurotoxic side effects, its was discontinued. Now PCP is used on the street to give users a psychotic high. In its purest form, PCP is a white crystalline powder that readily dissolves in water or alcohol and has a distinctive bitter chemical taste. PCP often contains several other chemicals that cause the color to range from a light to dark brown. Smoking is the most common route when used on the street, typically by mixing it with marijuana. The high PCP gives its abusers can last for 4 to 6 hours and cause extreme psychosis and disassociation. This makes PCP very dangerous for users.
